Jean Spencer: Music

Jefferson River Road Blues

(4)
As I sit in my pajamas, playing my guitar
It's so late it's early and I?m wondering how you are
I can't help wondering how you are.

I should be in old Havana smoking big cigars
Chatting up the fellows riding by in vintage cars
Get them to take me where you are.

Instead I'm singing the Jefferson River Road Blues
On my loneliness-killing machine
And I'm sending a message direct from my heart
To yours, I hope you get it soon.

As I sit and drink my coffee and read the morning news
Nothing seems important since there's nothing about you.
I can?t believe it but it's true.

You know I listen to the preacher, I listen to the bum.
If I listened to my self more I would just stick out my thumb
And take the shortest route to you.

Instead I'm singing the Jefferson River Road Blues
On my loneliness-killing machine.
And I'm sending a message direct from my heart
To yours, I hope you get it soon.

You know a song is more direct to me than any spoken word.
You can take it how you want to or pretend you never heard.
I'm just a silly little bird.

And now I'm singing the Jefferson River Road Blues
On my loneliness-killing machine.
And I'm sending a message direct from my heart
To yours, I hope you get it soon.
Check your heart, I know you'll get it soon.
