My Father's Coat Went Dancing

(2)
My father had a leather coat he used to work on cars
To tinker with the furnace and on cold days in the yard
It was worn out when he bought it at a yard sale for a buck
It was brown and kinda fifties and in the seventies that sucked.

My dad died many years ago and I got that old coat
And I hung in the closet of wherever I would go
And I cried upon the shoulder, just to smell my father's odor
And I slipped my broken heart into the pocket of my father's leather coat.

I was looking for a coat one night to wear out to the club
Not too heavy, not too light, not too baggy, not too tight
And I saw that jacket hanging there and suddenly I knew
It was brown and kinda fifties and in the nineties that was cool.

My father's coat went dancing at the 40 Watt that night.
And I thought I saw him smiling in the corner by the light.
And I cried upon the shoulder that I was looking over.
And I slipped my broken heart out of the pocket of my father's leather coat.

My father's coat went dancing
My father's coat went dancing
My father's coat went dancing
